Councilor Contemplations – May 2024

4th Annual EarthFest – 2024!
We estimate 2000 people attended and there were more than 50 organizations represented. Thanks to Sustainable Manlius, Renewable Fayetteville and all the Volunteers who made this successful!

Neighborhood Sidewalk Program
Monica Browning and Elaine Denton gave an impressive presentation supporting a sidewalk on Enders Road. https://www.townofmanlius.org/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/4876?fileID=8847The next step is a meeting with the Town Engineer.

Accessory Dwelling Units
The draft ordinance received significant input over the past several weeks, and has been revised. A Public Hearing will be held June 12th.

Another PUD
A plan was presented for a large mixed-use development at 5912 North Burdick Street [formerly DOOW Lumber]. The plan was referred to the Manlius and Onondaga County Planning Boards and a Public Hearing will be held June 12th.

More Public Hearings
Public Hearings will be held June 12th for zone changes at 7155 Taylor Road in Fremont and Seven Pines in Manlius. The Skyridge Water District needs to remove the Extension that included Clear Path for Veterans.

The Town Board set a date for a public hearing on June 26th regarding the purchase agreement with Twin Shores Property LLC for the parcels at 5424 and 5430 Burdick St North in the Town of Manlius for 2.8 million dollars.

Manlius Redevelopment Corporation
There was a Public Hearing on May 8th . Several residents spoke and submitted written comments. There are many unanswered questions. After discussion it was decided to close this public hearing, rewrite the documents with more compete information, and then hold another public hearing.

Town of Manlius Police
There was a presentation on the Cadet [formerly Explorer] program as well as authorizations for SIRO and SPO school-based officers and two contract issues on May 8th . Jerod Lusak was sworn in as a new Officer on May 22nd.

Unsafe Building
If you follow the Town Board, you know that the unsafe building on Fremont Road has been an ongoing issue for months. The Board voted to have it be demolished.
