Candidates 2020

We have amazing candidates running for state and federal elections this year. You can support them by volunteering to make phone calls, donating to their campaigns, and vote for them to protect our democracy on November 3, 2020!

New York State 24th Congressional District

Dana Balter

for Congress

Dana is a lifelong educator, receiving her first paycheck at the age of twelve for teaching at Sunday school. Early in her career, she was a teacher and director of education at a disability services nonprofit and recently taught at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. Dana Balter was the 2018 Democratic nominee for Congress in NY-24, where her campaign smashed fundraising records and came closer than any Democrat ever has to defeating John Katko.

New York State 50th Senate District

John Mannion

for State Senate

John Mannion is a life long resident of Central New York. He was born and raised on Tipperary Hill in Syracuse, and he now lives with his family in Geddes and teaches right next door in Camillus.

Growing up in a union household, John learned from a young age the value of hard work, a good job, and working together. Today he is a public high school Advanced Biology teacher and a union leader.

John Mannion is running to represent Central New York values in the State Senate. When elected, he will fight to make healthcare more accessible and affordable, increase funding to local education, and invest in our infrastructure to attract well-paying jobs.

New York 127th Assembly District

Al Stirpe

for State Assembly

During 2011 Al served as the Executive Director of Synapse Sustainability Trust, an environmental not-for-profit. During this period Synapse deployed 68 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations throughout Central New York. Through its Restoration Tree Trust, Synapse provided over 4,000 native trees for reforestation projects at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge and Trees for Tributaries (from NYC to Troy along tributaries to the Hudson River). In addition, Synapse provided 420 special RPM technology trees for SUNY ESF’s Memorial Grove at Heiberg Forest. In October of 2011, Al received the first ever SUNY Empire State College Excellence in Environmental Sustainability Award.

Al has resided in the 127th Assembly District for more than 35 years. He lives in North Syracuse with his wife, Chele and their daughter, Alexandra. Their son Chris – after serving four years on active duty in the Navy –  completed his Masters in Economics from The University of Buffalo and now works at Syracuse University. Their daughter Jesseca lives in an ARC of Onondaga group home in Syracuse.

In his four terms in the Assembly, Al has been a powerful advocate for economic development in Central New York, early intervention programs for children with developmental issues, universal pre-k, higher education and environmental issues, in particular, farmland preservation.
